Writing Goal

When I was writing a characterization on McMurphy I noticed i had a really hard time making it into a page. I think one thing I should focus on for next week is the length of my writing. Honestly, starting off writing like maybe the first paragraph is really easy for me. Actually making it longer than a page is hard for me. Maybe if I put in quotes from the book and explain how that relates to my point, and spend more time writing, then I could probably accomplish this goal for next week.

Problem I had in writing

While I was writing my writer's craft (figures of speech dialogue prompt), I noticed I had a really hard time putting in the details of my characters' surroundings. I just couldn't think of a way to put it in there at the time. I think maybe, if I have the characters talk about it - like kind of describe where they are headed off to, and take more notice to the surroundings (complain about it, joke about it, or compliment it). Then maybe it would be easier for the reader to understand where they are and why.

Reflection 10/2

Name one thing that has been working really well for you. Why did it seem to work well? How will it influence what you work on next week?

I think just getting stuff done on time, and using my class time wisely is one of the things that work out well for me. I never really fool around in class and I'm always doing what I'm suppose to do, when it comes to writing (even though I may not be the best at it). I think just the habit of being able to focus on my writing in class will have a great influence on what I work on next week.

Writing goals for this year

Some of  my writing goals I would like to achieve this year are:

1.  Getting better at writing introductory paragraphs for the essays I write. I think I can achieve this if I come up with a variety of different hooks that I think would catch the reader, and pick through which ever ones make the most sense to me.

2. Getting better with memorizing new vocabulary words, so I can use them in my writing. Expanding my vocabulary will help me explain things in a different or better way. I think I can achieve this if I use notecards and practice with a peer, or use Quizlet.
